Hum into words

Start on a hum, then say a word at the same pitch.

How to do it
  1. Hum “mm-hmm” on your target pitch.
  2. Straight after, say the word on screen at that pitch.
  3. Pause between words. There are 8.

What it should feel like: The word carries on from the hum without a jump.

Why this helps

Starting from a hum, where your target is easy to find, then going straight into a word is a simple way to bring it into speech. ASHA stresses practising in realistic situations, such as phone calls or ordering in a café, so the voice you practise carries over into daily life.
